Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To exactly discriminate a shifting state at all times, by mutually deflecting and placing 2 photosensitive elements opposed to a light source for detecting a shifting state of parts to be shifted, in the direction which is capable of discriminating the shifting state, from the contour of a front end of the parts to be shifted. CONSTITUTION:2 photosensitive elements 4a, 4b opposed to a light source are placed so as to be deflected by an angle alpha from the contour of the end of parts (m) (full line) which are carried on a chute 1a. When the photosensitive element 4a is shaded by the parts (m), an input terminal J and K of an FF17 become ''1'' and ''0'', respectively, through a transistor (TR) 11 and NOT elements 13, 14. Subsequently, when the photosensitive element 4b is shaded, a terminal C becomes ''0'' through a TR12 and NOT elements 15, 16, and an output of a terminal Q becomes ''1''. It is detected that the parts (m) are in a state that its front is the head. Even when the parts have jumped up as shown by a dotted line, the same result is obtained. In this way, the shifting state is discriminated exactly at all times.
