PROCESS:A compound{e.g., O-benxzyl-O-[O-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-2,3,6-tri-O-acetyl-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-5-fluorouracil, etc.} shown by the formula II (R is aliphatic acyl; R is a group to be removed by catalytic reduction) is dissolved in a solvent, to which palladium carbon is added, and hydrogen gas is introduced to the solution at room temperature under normal pressure so that catalytic reduction is carried out, to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
