CONFIGURATION OF STEM

PURPOSE:To reduce swell of wave near the stem and thus reduce the wave making drag by installing a sloped cut-out groove open to sea water underneath, starting from above the full load draft line at the center of the stem, and sloping downward to the bottom of the ship so that the wave near the stem may flow the cut-out groove. CONSTITUTION:At the center of the stem 10, a cut-out groove 12 open to sea water below is cut from above the full load draft line at the stem to the bottom of the ship, sloping downward along the axis of the ship with a natural angle of inclination. The width of the groove 12 is determined so that the structural strength of the hull is not affected. As a result, sea wave near the stem will flow smoothly through the groove to the stern, so that the swell of wave near the stem can be reduced resulting in a remarkable reduction in the wave making drag.
