Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce internal resistance and to obtain higher capacity by using beta-manganese dioxide of two kinds or more differing in an average particle diameter as a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte battery using light metals for a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode active material 4, a separator 3 and a negative electrode active material 2 comprising light metal such as lithium are accommodated in a positive electrode can 5, and this is sealed by a negative electrode can 1 obtained by interposing a gasket 6 to form a nonaqueous electrolyte battery. For the positive electrode active material 4 of this battery, beta-manganese dioxide is used, which is formed by mixing two kinds or more of it differing in its average particle diameter (or a particle diameter at the center of their distribution). For this average particle diameter, those, for example, of 10mu and of 50mu are used to be mixed in equal amounts with addition of a conductive material, etc. And the resultant is pressurized and molded for forming a positive electrode.
