The poison concentration may decrease stepwise in the direction towards the absorber rods, poisoncontaining rods being of different lengths, the longest being at least one-seventh shorter than the cam length and rods of the same length being symmetrically disposed. Absorber rods may include control rods and shut-down rods, and the control rods may be gauged.
