Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to generate a tracking error signal according to measured time without recording servo information by measuring the time from the reference position of the track recorded on a band shaped recording medium by a helical scanning system is detected till a prescribed signal is detected. SOLUTION: Respective times t1-t3 from a reference position ref (PG signal) to respective synchronizing signals #1-#3 SYNC of respective fragments 702-1 to 3 of a data area 701 are measured. Next, the average value th of absolute values Δt1-Δt3 of respective time difference among respective times t1-t3 and theoretical values t01-t03 is calculated.
