Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select appropriate supports immediately for a wall just after excavation by selecting supports to be installed at the excavated wall from among multiple kinds of supports on the basis of vibration occurring from the excavation of a tunnel excavator. SOLUTION: The coefficient of variation is computed from the vibration of an excavator with an accelerometer 5, an A/D converter 7 and a waveform processing section 8 while excavating a rock mass with a cutter head 1 and advancing the tunnel excavator. When the coefficient of variation is large, on the assumption that the rock mass has many cracks, strong supports are selected and the selected supports are installed on the excavated wall. When the coefficient of variation is small, on the assumption that the rock mass has a few cracks, no support or ring supports 21 are selected and the selected supports 21 are installed at the excavated wall except when no supports are used. Therefore, appropriate supports can be selected quickly without confirming the wall after excavation visually.
