Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy both of magnetic recording characteristics and enough reliability of sliding resistance by sputtering a material essentially comprising intermetallic compd. to form fine projections essentially comprising the intermetallic compd. on the surface of a substrate and then subjecting the surface to laser processing to form annular projections only in a CSS zone. SOLUTION: After a base alloy layer 102 of Co, Cr, Ta is formed on a disk- type glass substrate 101, fine projections 103 comprising an intermetallic compd. of Al and Co are formed on the base alloy layer 102 by sputtering a target comprising Al-14.6 at.% Co. Then the CSS zone of the substrate 101 where fine projections 103 are formed is processed with laser beams to form discrete annular projections 105. Further, an alloy layer 106, a magnetic recording layer 107, and a protective film layer 108 are formed thereon. Thereby, the obtd. medium hardly causes sticking of a head and has excellent sliding resistance.
