Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory capacity for correcting errors and to highly speed up an error correcting operation in a DVD/CD/CD-ROM compatible system. SOLUTION: A storage area for storing a calculation result obtained by a DVD syndrome calculating part 118 is provided in a memory 126 in common use as the CD/DVD. This storage area is used in common for a data storage area to be used when correcting processing is performed by a CD correcting part 121 in accordance with a CD correcting format and a storage area for storing the calculation result obtained by a CD-ROM syndrome calculating part 127.
