Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject laminar material for providing a polymer matrix with mechanical strength, heat resistance, etc., capable of widening a gap between adjoining small branches and readily releasing individual small branches, by bringing a laminar material such as phyllosilicate into contact with a long-chain alkyl-containing intercalant surface modifying agent. SOLUTION: This intercalation material is obtained by bringing a laminar material into contact with an intercalant surface modifying agent containing a >=6C alkyl. The molar ratio of the surface modifying agent and an interlaminar cation is at least 1:5, the surface modifying agent is housed and fixed in the adjoining interlayer space of the laminar material and the gap between the adjoining small branches of the laminar material is widened in >=10 when measured after housing of the surface modifying agent. A polar organic compound containing a >=6C alkyl and a hydroxyl functional group is preferable as the surface modifying agent. Preferably the surface modifying agent and the polymerizable monomer and/oligomer and/or polymer are simultaneously subjected to cointercalation.
