Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To need no vertical inversion of an onion, shorten the longitudinal length of a device and cut the foliage and roots of the onion in the optimal posture and in a stable posture not inclined. SOLUTION: This device for preparing onions has an onion-receiving and carrying mechanism A for receiving and carrying the bulb portion 4a of an onion 4 in a posture in which the foliage of the onion is downward inverted, a nipping and carrying mechanism B for carrying and nipping the bulb portion 4a carried with the receiving and carrying mechanism A from both the lateral sides, a stranding mechanism F for stranding on the onion carried with the nipping and carrying mechanism B to downward press the bulb portion 4a, a foliage-cutting mechanism D for cutting the foliage 4b below the carriage route of the nipping and carrying mechanism B, and a root-cutting mechanism E for cutting the roots 4c at the approximately same position in the carrying direction as that of the foliage-cutting mechanism D disposed below the stranding mechanism F.
