Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary light projecting device projecting auxiliary light with sufficient illuminance to an entire specified focus detection area without overstraining a power source and a light source. SOLUTION: When the integration operation of a light receiving part is started, an axial auxiliary light is turned on only for auxiliary light control time t1. Since a current made to flow through a light emitting diode light source requiring high illuminance then is made large, a time when the wire bonding of metal wire applied as the electrode of a light emitting diode element is not melted by heat generation is determined as the time t1. When the axial auxiliary light is turned off, off-axis auxiliary light is turned on only for the auxiliary light control time t2. The time t2 is fixed in the same manner as the time t1. When the off-axis auxiliary light is turned off, the integration operation is nearly simultaneously completed and operation is shifted to next dump operation.
