Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide light having a desired color by using a plurality of light source elements as light sources, and emitting light having a plurality of luminescent wave lengths and emitting the light having different intensity in every wave length. SOLUTION: Three wave length tubes having red, green, blue luminescent wave lengths are used as FL tubes 8a, 8b of a flat display device, and display color (white) of a liquid crystal module 2 is determined according to the chromaticity of the EL tubes 8a, 8b used for back lighting and the total chromaticity of color filters of RGB of the liquid crystal module 2. Characteristics (intensity) of three wave lengths of outgoing light from the FL tubes 8a, 8b are made variable. As a process to make variable, the material and amount of a phosphor of the RGB sealed in the FL tubes 8a, 8b are varied, or tube current flowing through the tubes is individually controlled. Even if either process is used, the chromaticity intensity of the FL tubes 8a, 8b is varied, and finally the display color of the liquid crystal module 2 is made variable.
