Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic tensioner capable of obtaining sufficient back stopping force without increasing feeding hydraulic pressure even if loading applied to a planger is fluctuated with high frequency. SOLUTION: The seat surface of the ball seal of a ball check valve provided in the inside of the main body of this hydraulic tensioner, is formed into the outward widening tapered surface of an open angle 60 to 110 deg., and the mass of the chack ball is made to be less than 0.1 g, and this hydraulic tensioner is excellent in follow-up properties for the hydraulic fluctuation at the high frequency of the check ball, and can maintain sufficient back stopping force without increasing feeding hydraulic pressure even in a high frequency range where loading applied to a planger is fluctuated.
