Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a support catalyst for ethylene polymerization and copolymerization of ethylene with α-olefin having low activity at initial stage and gradually increasing activity as polymerization advances and finally having sufficient activity in ethylene polymerization and ethylene/α- olefin copolymerization enabling production of a polymer having narrow particle size distribution and increased bulk density and carried out by slurry and gaseous polymerization. SOLUTION: This method for producing the subject support catalyst comprises reacting an organomagnesium compound having a composition represented by the formula, MgPh2 .nMgCl2 .mR2 O [Rh is phenyl; (n) is 0.37-0.7; (m)>=1; R2 O is ether] with an organic chlorine compound at -20 deg.C to 80 deg.C in >=0.5 molar ratio of the organic chlorine compound to magnesium and treating the resultant magnesium-containing support with a titanium compound containing oxygen atom.
