Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sialon-SiC-C starting material for refractories excellent in hydrophilic property and oxidation resistance by adding a carbon material to an alumina-silica refractory material and heating them. SOLUTION: A carbon material is added to an alumina-silica refractory material and they are heated at about 1,450-1,500 deg.C in a nitrogen atmosphere. By this heating, Al2 O3 , and SiO2 in the alumina-silica refractory material are reduced to sialon and SiC with C of the carbon material, and hydrophilic property and oxidation resistance are imparted to the excess C component to obtain the objective sialon-SiC-C starting material for refractories. A natural or synthetic mineral may be used as the alumina-silica refractory material, the natural mineral is, e.g. agalmatolite or clay and a combination of such minerals may be used. When the particle size of the starting material is adjusted and the starting material is mixed and kneaded with appropriately selected additives such as a binder, a dispersant, a plasticizer and a hardening agent and water or other solvent, monolithic refractories can be manufactured. |
