Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject bacteriophage capable of being rapidly measured in improved measurement accuracy with a laser beam having a longer wavelength than that of UV light and suitable for the detection of bacteria by recovering the bacteriophage proliferated in the presence of the host bacteria in a culture medium containing a prescribed amount of acridine orange. SOLUTION: This bacteriophage labeled with acridine orange is obtained by recovering the bacteriophage proliferated in the presence of host bacteria in a host bacterium-culturing medium containing acridine orange in a concentration of 5-100 mg, preferably 20-50 mg, per liter of the culture medium. The acridine orange as a label for the phage DNA is held by an intercalation bond where the acridine orange is intercalated into the stereostructural space of the double strand phage DNA.
