Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyarylate that is composed of a specific phenolic resid ual group and a specific dicarboxylic residual group, has transparency, low optical birefringence, high resistance to heat and abrasion and is useful in machines, cars, food fields, as a material for forming coating layers, or in the electric and electronic fields or on optical instrument fields. SOLUTION: This polyarylate comprises (A) a residual group of a dihydric phenol represented by the formula (R and R' are each H, a halogen, hydrocarbon or the like; (p) and (q) satisfy the formula: p+q=0-8; X is a single bond, O or the like) and (B) a dicarboxylic acid residual group in which the molar fraction satisfies formula III [(a) is the molar number of the phenolic residue in formula I; (b) is the molar number of the phenolic residue in formula II]. The component B is constituted with the residual group originating from terephthalic acid or a mixture thereof with isopthalic acid, and the inherent viscosity of the polyarylate of 1.0 g/dl concentration in 1,1,2,2-tetrachlorethane solution is 0.25-2.50 at 25 deg.C. |
