SOLUTION: A tension controller is provided with an inner rotor type regenerative brake device 2 incorporating a rotor 4 having a field winding 3 for generating a back electromotive voltage in the field winding 3 by rotating the rotor 4 when a wire material travels, a rectifier circuit 12 for rectifying the back electromotive voltage and a current control circuit 13 receiving a current from the rectifier circuit 12, and the rectifier circuit 12 and the current control circuit 13 are rotated integrally with the rotor 4.
