Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly identify particles by setting a first particle image pickup system and a second particle image pickup system, and making an irradiation state of an irradiation light to particles different between the first and second image pickup systems. SOLUTION: A particle detection system 34 comprises a continuous emission light source 1, a first photodetector 7 for detecting the light emitted forward from a particle, a second photodetector 11 for detecting the light emitted sideways from the particle. A first particle image pickup system 31 comprises a first pulse light source 18 and a first video camera 23. A second particle image pickup system 32 comprises a second pulse light source 2 and a second video camera 17. The light from each light source 1, 18, 2 illuminates the flowing particle from a direction orthogonal to a flow direction of the particle. The lights from the light sources 1, 18 are different in direction by 90 deg. from the light from the light source 2. The pulse light passing a sample flow forms an image on a photodetecting face of each of the first, second video cameras 23, 17, whereby a transmission light image of the same particle is picked up. The image is processed by an image-processing part 38.
