Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively and easily separate and recover lithium from positive electrode active material of a spent lithium ion secondary battery. SOLUTION: In this lithium recovering method, when alkali used for deposit formation is separated from lithium contained in residual solution by using the residual solution containing alkali obtained after recovering transition metal from positive electrode active material of a spent lithium ion secondary battery, the residual solution is evaporated, dried and hardened, the dried substance is dissolved by alcohol, the solution obtained is then brought into contact with a positive ion exchange resin, and thereby, an alkali ion is separated from a lithium ion by absorbing the alkali ion in the solution by the positive ion exchange resin, in order to recover the separator lithium.
