APPARATUS FOR REMOVING UNNECESSARY EDGE PART OF OUTSIDE OF GLASS PANEL CUT OUT AND FORMED FROM PLATE GLASS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for sintering an optical fiber preform comprising a porous fine particle laminate. SOLUTION: This apparatus for sintering an optical fiber preform consists of a suction pad for raising a glass panel form a supporting body or pushing the glass panel against the supporting body, a fingerlike projection which is installed in the vicinity of the suction pad and supported rotatably around a central shaft extended in the vertical direction of the suction pad, a moving means for moving the suction pad and the fingerlike projection at different heights and a driving means for revolving the fingerlike projection around the central shaft. In this case, the suction pad and the fingerlike projection are installed in a grinding apparatus unit, the grinding apparatus unit is constituted to move to a fixed point so as to remove an unnecessary edge part and the position of the fingerlike protection based on the suction pad is determined by the driving means so as to place the suction pad on the glass panel side and the fingerlike projection on the unnecessary edge part side.
