Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce work when the operation of a coater is suspended or resumed and to improve the stability and reproducibility of the coating quality when the coater is restarted. SOLUTION: A paint circulating line A of the coater is formed by an outlet pipe 11, a feed pipeline 12, a spray gun 13, a recovery pipeline 14 and a return pipe 15, and paint is circulated all the time when the spray gun 13 is operated. A branch pipe 16 is connected to the feed pipeline 12 to constitute a bypass line B. An air compressor 29 for supplying air into the pipeline is connected to the feed pipeline 12 through an air feed valve 29a. Meanwhile, a cleaning tank 30 storing a liq. diluent or a cleaning soln. is provided and connected to the recovery pipeline 14 through return pipe 31. The cleaning tank 30 is connected to the branch pipe 16 through an auxiliary return pipe 32 and further to the feed pipeline 12 through the outlet pipe 35 having an outlet valve 36. The valves of the pipelines, liq. feed pumps, etc., are controlled and driven by a controlling and driving system 50.
