PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record/reproduce two programs with one recording/reproducing device by modulating two systems of input signals with an SDL system, running at the time running speed of the SD system and alternately recording/ reproducing with two pairs of heads. SOLUTION: When the programs A, B are recorded on a tape, both are recorded by the SDL system regardless of a setting mode. The programs A, B are compressed by the SDL system in signal processing circuits 12, 13, and are amplified respectively by recording amplifiers 14, 15, and are outputted to a head switch circuit 16, and an SW17-3 terminal (h) is connected to a terminal (j), and an SW17-1 terminal (a) is connected to a terminal (b), and a program A signal is outputted from the heads 1, 3, and a program B signal is outputted from the heads 2, 4. In such a manner, when two programs are simultaneously recorded on one magnetic tape, both programs are compressed by the SDL system, and a magnetic tape running speed is made an SD system speed of which speed is twice as fast as the SDL system, and five lines of tracks constituting one frame in the SDL system are secured in respective programs to be recorded simultaneously.
