Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin having high hydrolysis resistance and obtained by copolymerizing an alkenyl carboxylate with vinyl acetate and containing a specified amount of units derived from an alkenyl benzoate. SOLUTION: There is provided a vinyl acetate resin obtained by copolymerizing an alkenyl aromatic carboxylate represented by formula I with vinyl acetate and containing 50-90 wt.% units derived from the alkenyl aromatic carbocylate. This resin is mixed with an antioxidant, an ultraviolet absorber, and other additives to obtain a resin composition. To produce a hydrolysis- resistant resin coating material or a hydrolysis-resistant adhesive, this resin is added thereto in an amount of at least 50 wt.% based on the total solid content thereof. The carboxylic acid which forms the alkenyl aromatic acrboxylate is exemplified by benzoic acid, chlorobenzoic acid, or methylbenzoic acid, and the alkenyl is exemplified by vinyl or allyl. In the formula, R1 is H, a halogen, or lower alkyl, and R2 is a 2 or 3C alkenyl. |
