Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve derivability and exhaust emission in an evaporation purge action of a control device of an internal combustion engine equipped with a variable valve timing mechanism. SOLUTION: In the control device of an internal combustion engine, an intake pipe pressure, engine speed, and intake temperature as an operating state parameter of the internal combustion engine are detected, an operating state of the engine is determined based on the detected operating state parameter, and opening/closing timing of an intake valve 8 or an exhaust valve 9 is changed by a valve open/close characteristic control device 10 in response to the determined operating state of the engine. In this control device, an intake-air temperature sensor 4 is provided near an intake port 28 of each cylinder, and accurate intake-air temperature near the intake port 28 is detected. Even when there is no intake-air temperature sensor 4, an accurate temperature near the intake port 28 is estimated by the opening/closing timing of the intake valve 8 or the exhaust valve 9 and the operating state of the engine. Accordingly, fluctuation in air-fuel ratio at an evaporation purge and deterioration of the exhaust emission are prevented, thereby improves drivability.
