Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for thermally decomposing a chlorine-containing thermoplastic resin, which comprises mixing the resin with a powdery or particulate solid substance, thermally decomposing the mixture in a reactor, removing chlorine, discharging the thermal decomposition residue from the reactor and incinerating the residue in an incinerator without increasing the amount of ash produced from incineration. SOLUTION: A chlorine-containing thermoplastic resin and ash produced from an incinerator as a powdery or particulate solid substance are fed into a reactor 1 and thermally decomposed therein to form a mixture containing a substantially chlorine-free thermal decomposition residue and incineration ash and a gas containing hydrogen chloride. The mixture and the gas are discharged from the reactor 1, and the discharged thermal decomposition residue is incinerated.
