Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder in which ink on the nozzle face of a recording head is absorbed surely in a short time. SOLUTION: A recording head 31 elevates a cap 1 through an elevating/ lowering means to abut the cap 1 against the nozzle face 32 thus pressing the nozzle face 32. Consequently, the nozzle face 32 is enclosed. At the same time, negative pressure suction at the recess 2 of the cap 1 is started by means of a pump. The recess 2 of the cap 1 is evacuated slightly by means of the pump. The cap 1 is pressed against the nozzle face 32 through the elevating/lowering means, but the pressure in the recess 2 does not increase over the atmospheric pressure even if the cap 1 is deformed.
