SOLUTION: Through 2nd and 3rd detectors 38 and 39, a 1st detector 32 is arranged at a position of, for example, (n) pitches from a gathering die 2 and a batten 5 is so rotated according to pitch information from the 1st detector 32 that even when pitches per cycle of the zigzag grooves of the SZ slot 3 vary, the positions of the zigzag grooves of the gathering die 2 are made to correspond to the positions of insertion holes formed in the batten 5. A gear 6 having opening parts 51 into which optical fiber units 4 can be inserted is provided at a position corresponding to an insertion hole of the batten 5 arranged right before the gathering die 2 and the angle between the opening part 51 and a horizontal surface is made nearly constant irrelevantly to the position in the rotating direction of the zigzag grooves 3.
