PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic excellent in stability to color change and useful for base cosmetics hair cosmetics, makeup cosmetics and bathing cosmetics, etc., by formulating an extract solution of lichen with sulfite. SOLUTION: This cosmetic is obtained by formulating (A) preferably 0.001-10 wt.% extract solution of lichen with (B) preferably 0.001-10 wt.% sulfite. It is preferable that the component A is an extract solution obtained by extracting lichen with semi-polar solvent (e.g. ethanol or methylethyl ketone) and further dissolving the extract with a liquid polyhydric alcohol (e.g. 1,3-butylene glycol or propylene glycol) and the composition B is sodium hydrogensulfite or sodium sulfite. The cosmetic can be, as necessary, formulated with a surfactant (e.g. sorbitan monooleate), an oily substance (e.g. oil and fat, waxes or hydrocarbon oil) and an aqueous substance (e.g. lower alcohol or saccharide).
