Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyether defoaming agent having an excellent defoaming effect even when a small amt. of the agent is used by adding ethylene oxide to a higher alcohol, further adding an alkylene oxide other than ethylene oxide and imparting a specified clouding point thereto. SOLUTION: An alcohol and an alkali metallic hydroxide as a catalyst are charged into an agitation type autoclave, melted by heating and dehydrated under reduced pressure. Ethylene oxide is charged and brought into addition reaction under elevated temp. and pressure. Propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide is then charged and brought into addition reaction under elevated temp. and pressure. The catalyst is removed from the reaction product and a compd. of the formula [where R is an 8-28C alkyl or alkenyl; A is a 3-4C alkylene; (m) is 3-10; (n) is 5-40; and 8
