Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large scale picture display device of low power consumption, lightweight and slim structure and a low cost. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal(LC) is sealed between a pair of substrates, a common electrode is arranged on one of the substrates and reflection type pixel electrodes individually corresponding to plural pixels arrayed by a prescribed array format in both longitudinal and lateral directions, storage elements connected to the reflection type pixel electrodes, signal lines for supplying picture signals to the storage elements, and address lines for selecting a required storage elements are disposed on the other substrate (IC substrate). A horizontal drive part and a vertical drive part for selecting each pixel are also provided on the IC substrate. A reflection type LC display element for optically modulating the reflected light of read light by LC based on electric charge accumulated in the storage element in accordance with the voltage of an input picture signal supplied from a selected signal line is used as a unit reflection type LC display element DE so as to be used for the display of picture information of one pixel of a display picture to be displayed on the reflection type display device and respective unit reflection type display elements DE are arrayed so as to correspond to the pixel array of the display picture to be displayed on the reflection type display device.
