Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and its shading correction method where shading data suitable for a read image are surely acquired. SOLUTION: In the case that an original has been set already when a power supply of the image reader is applied, a prescribed message is displayed on an LCD to urge an operator to remove the original (step S308). Whether or not the original is removed is discriminated (step S309), and when the original is removed, a prescribed message is displayed on the LCD to urge the operator to depress a start key on a key board (step S310). When the start key is depressed (step S311). shading data are read and the read data are stored in a shading backup memory (step S304).
