Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form the cross-sectional picture of a cloud to without an unnatural feeling by comparing cloud top height at the point corresponding to latitude and longitude lines and a coast line with that at the adjacent point thereby detecting the cloud top height. SOLUTION: A WEFAX signal received by a parabola antenna 12 is demodulated by a demodulator 14 and digitally converted by an A/D converter 16. A personal computer 18 fetches data of a digitized infrared-ray picture and preserves it. Then, an operator displays the infrared-ray picture of cloud in a display part 20 and sets the two optional points desired to be displayed in a cross section. The computer 18 extracts temp. data on a straight line connecting the two set points from a memory and cloud top height is calculated based on temp. at every picture element on the straight line. Then, the difference of cloud top height data in one optional point between the two set ones is compared with a prescribed value so as to detect the point corresponding to the latitude and longitude lines or the coast line. After that, the cloud top height of the corresponding point is estimated from that of the adjacent point.
