PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a telephone set to respond to connection more quickly by allowing each module to read data corresponding to a channel number from channel data analyzed during the scanning operation and deciding a channel with the channel number immediately when the channel number differs from the analyzed channel number. SOLUTION: A handset has a frequency synthesizer 12 with a phase locked loop PLL and includes a microprocessor 8. Scanning is conducted by a software of a microprocessor 1 or 8, controls the arrangement of PLL circuits on a channel and detects data and activates a decoder. After a delay D1, a carrier level is measured and whether or not a carrier is in existence on the channel is tested, and when any data are detected, a request frame is received, a channel number is checked and the routine is repeated till a correct identification code of a mobile station is detected.
