Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device adopting a polarizing hologram element being multiply coated. SOLUTION: This device comprises a light source 120, an objective lens 170 converging a light beam transmitted from the light source 120 on a recording medium 10, a hologram element 150 arranged on the optical path between the light source 120 and the objective lens 170 and converting the propagation of the incident beam, a phase delaying plate 160 changing the polarizing direction of the incident beam and a photodetector 180 receiving a light beam reflected by the recording medium 10. The hologram element 150, including a polarizing beam splitter 151, transmitting through the beam of one polarizing component of the incident beams and reflecting the other polarizing component, and a reflection member 152, diffracting the beam passed through the polarizing beam splitter 151 for forming a hologram pattern and reflecting the incident beam, is obliquely arranged between the light source and the phase delaying plate.
