PRODUCTION OF N-(10-CAMPHORSULFONYLOXY)SUCCINIMIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain the subject compound useful as an acid generation agent effective for suppressing retarding effect and filming phenomenon by reacting N-hydroxysuccinimide with a camphorsulfonyl halide. SOLUTION: The objective N-(10-camphorsulfonyloxy)succinimide is produced by reacting (A) N-hydroxysuccinimide with (B) a 10-camphorsulfonyl halide and removing the sulfonic acid group from the reaction product. The process for the removal of sulfonic acid group preferably includes a process to wash a hydrophobic organic solvent solution containing the reaction product with an aqueous solution containing a neutral salt of an acid having weak acidity compared with sulfonic acid (preferably sodium acetate). The objective effect can be attained by this process capable of eliminating the residual acid in the reaction product.
