BICYCLIC-CONDENSED PYRIDINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound, having inhibiting activities against a cholesterol ester transfer protein and useful for treating hyperproteinemia, atherosclerosis, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [A is a substitutable 6-10C aryl; D is R -T or formula II (R and R are each a 3-8C cycloalkyl, etc.; R and R are each H, a halogen, etc.; T is a 1-10C alkylene or alkenylene chain); E is a 3-8C cycloalkyl, a 1-8C alkyl, etc.; R and R together form a 1-8C alkylene chain, etc.], e.g. 7,8-dichloro-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-[hydroxy-(4- trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-methyl]-2-isopropyl-indeno[1,2-b]pyridin-5-one. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by carrying out the Grignard or Wittig reaction of a compound represented by formula III with an organometallic reagent, thereby introducing the substituent group D thereinto, suitably changing the substituent groups A, E and/or R and R according to a conventional method or introducing the substituent groups thereinto.
