Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain 4-hydroxybiphenyl in a shape of wet product having no thixotropic property from biphenyl-4-sulfonic acid. SOLUTION: A reaction mixture containing 4-hydroxybiphenyl obtained by an alkali hydrolysis method of biphenyl-4-sulfonic acid is heated at a temperature higher than 115 deg.C within a range of pH0-6.5 under a high pressure. By the process, the objective 4-hydroxybiphenyl is obtained in a shape of having no thixotropic property.
