MAGNETORESISTIVE EFFECT HEAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a magnetoresistive effect head which can reduce the deformation of gap without deteriorating vertical bias effect in a narrow track head. SOLUTION: In a vertical bias sections formed in the passive regions 3 on both sides of the central active region 2, width H2 of the part adjacent to a magnetoresistive effect element of an active region 2 is formed larger than the width H1 in the height direction of the magnetoresistive effect element. Namely, length, namely depth in the direction vertical to the magnetic medium surface at the part adjacent to the central active region 2 and passive region 3 is set longer. Thereby, the vertical bias film can be formed thinner than the existing one without deteriorating the vertical bias effect and thereby the MR head which can reduce deformation of gap can be realized.
