Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for a gas discharge type display device capable of reducing an address voltage and enhancing contrast while suppressing ion damage to phosphor, and to provide a manufacturing method capable of shotening the time required for a manufacturing process of a back face substrate provided with barrier ribs and address electrodes and improving the manufacturing yield. SOLUTION: A discharge space consisting of an address discharge space for a display cell selection and a main discharge space for performing a main discharge for a display is provided at a front substrate side, and a discharge space surrounded by inner walls, on which phosphor layer exists, is provided at a rear substrate 2 side. Thus, the address discharge is performed in a space where no phosphor exists, so that an electric field for discharge is not applied to the phosphor. Further, a conductive layer is formed on a bedding comprising barrier bibs before forming the address electrodes 10 and the barrier ribs, thereby shotening the time required for the manufacturing process of the rear substrate.
