AUTOFOCUSING DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocusing device capable of surely performing autofocusing operation even in the case that manual focusing by viewing is not appropriate and a focal point is drastically deviated. SOLUTION: A contrast detection type autofocusing device firstly performs rough focusing operation at a scanning range from a point (a) to the point (b), so that the contrast curve of a video signal is obtained. When a peak value does not appear at a point other than both ends at a curve 96C1, the contrast curve 96C2 is obtained by repeatedly executing the rough focusing operation at a shifted scanning range (from the point (a) to the point a1), so that the peak value of contrast is searched. The scanning of a wide range is automatically performed, so that the focal point F2 is detected without falling into erroneous focusing though the autofocusing operation is started in a state where the focal point F2 is drastically deviated from the scanning range.
