PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting method in which the remaining capacity of a battery used for an electric vehicle can be detected precisely and at high speed irrespective of the magnitude of the remaining capacity. SOLUTION: In a detecting method for the remaining capacity of a battery for an electric vehicle, a correlation between a physical quantity capable of being actually measured about the battery in a regenerative operation and the remaining capacity of the battery is measured in advance, and the remaining capacity of an actually operated battery is detected on the basis of the correlation and on the basis of the physical quantity measured in the regenerative operation. Especially, the detecting method is applied when the physical quantity refers to the internal resistance of the battery, when the physical quantity refers to the internal resistance of the battery and to the temperature of the battery and when the remaining capacity of the actually operated battery is much.
