Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a frictional sliding member having low coefficient of friction and excellent in wear resistance by constituting a thin crystal film of titanium nitride of face-centered cubic structure in which crystal orientation is oriented in the 200} plane. SOLUTION: In the production of a frictional sliding member, a stage where titanium is vapor-deposited onto the sliding surface of a base material and a state where the sliding surface is irradiated with nitrogen ion beam are performed simultaneously or alternately to form a thin crystal film of titanium nitride having a face-centered cubic structure in which crystal orientation is oriented in the 200} plane. In this case, vapor deposing grains of titanium are allowed to react, before adhesion to the base material, with nitrogen ions and injected in the form of nitrides into the base material or is allowed to react, after adhesion to the base material, with nitrogen ions and injected in the form of nitrides into the base material, and the surface, to be treated, of the base material is finally coated with a thin crystal film of titanium nitride. Because the thin crystal film is injected, in part, into the base material, this film can be formed into a state of intermetallic bonding to the base material and allowed to adhere firmly to the base material.
