CORRECTION OF BEND OF OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM AND JIG AND APPARATUS USED THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for correcting the bends of an optical fiber preform by which the bend of the optical fiber preform can readily be corrected in a short time and a jig and an apparatus used therefor. SOLUTION: Bend parts 3a to 3d of an optical fiber preform 3 are heated with a burner 4 for heating and the heated parts are then measured with a radiant thermometer 38 and softened. A movable ring of a correction jig 34 is rotated in a suitable timing with a controller to pressurize the bend parts 3a to 3d so as to squeeze the bend parts 3a to 3d with plural rollers respectively installed at the other end of an arm. Since the correction jig 34 is moved in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber preform 3, the bends of the optical fiber preform 3 can readily be corrected in a short time.
