Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shape and position sensing device for columnar objects with which the time required to make measurement is shortened and the measuring accuracy is enhanced by simplifying the installing structure of a range finder. SOLUTION: A shape and position sensing device to sense the outside diameter, width, and center position of columnar objects laid in line is composed of a one-dimensional laser range finder 5 and two-dimensional laser range finder 6 which are installed on a crane 3 moving over the objects 1 and measure the distance from object 1 and a calculating means to calculate the outside diameter, width, and center position of the object on the basis of the sensing data given by the range finders 5 and 6.
