SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [X is Cl, O; Z is vinyl, CH2 CH2 -Y (Y is a substituent releasable under an alkaline condition); (a) is 0-3; (b) is 0-4; (c) is 0.5-4; M is H, an alkali metal; R and R are each H, a 1-6C alkyl]. The compound is prepared, for example, by reducing an acid chloride of formula II to produce a sulfinic acid, converting the sulfinic acid to an ethoxylate to form a compound of formula III.
