Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetostrictive type displacement detector advantageous in the improvement of detection accuracy. SOLUTION: This apparatus has a magnetostrictive material 5, a reflection member 9 which is provided at one end side of the magnetostrictive material 5 to reflect an elastic wave, a permanent magnet 6, a pulse supply means 70 to supply a current pulse to the magnetostrictive material 5 and a receiving means 4 which is provided on the side of the other end part of the magnetostrictive material 5. A displacement amplification detecting means is provided to determine a physical quantity with the displacement amplified of the permanent magnet 6 in the direction of extending the magnetostrictive material 5 and detects the relative displacement of the permanent magnet 6 based on the physical quantity.
