Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable manufacture of highly reliable magnetic recording medium which has reduced change of size and minimizes increase of reproducing image distortion and error rate by change of size by flowing a current to a conductive magnetic layer on a non-magnetic substrate and then conducting heat treatment with Joule's heat. SOLUTION: The magnetic layer side of a magnetic tape 3 is sent from a feed roll 1 in such a manner that it is in contact with metal rolls 8a, 8b and it is then wound up by a takeup roll 2. In this case, a smaller tensile force of 1gf or loess per 100mm width, for example, is given to the running magnetic tape 3 by adjusting the speed of the feed and takeup rolls 1, 2. Under this condition, when the predetermined voltage is applied across the metal rolls 8a, 8b from a power supply 7, a current which is inversely proportional to an electric resistance flows to the magnetic layer of magnetic tape 3 and thereby the magnetic tape 3 is heated by Joule's heat. As explained above, since the magnetic tape 3 itself is heated, heat efficiency is high and since the stable running of magnetic tape 3 is assured, the manufacturing apparatus can be reduced in size.
