PHOTOGRAPHIC SILVER HALIDE EMULSION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the photographic silver halide emulsion having high sensitivity and small silver halide grains and low fog by using a specified compound to ripen the silver halide emulsion. SOLUTION: The silver halide emulsion is ripened by using at least one kind of compound represented by the formula in which R1 is an H atom or an alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, alkylcarbonyl, arylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, arylsulfonyl, or aulfamoyl group; Q is the residual constituent structure of the optionally substituted 4-∼7-membered hetero ring and it is especially considered that Q is substituted, preferably, by an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, oxo, or imino group. R1 is, preferably, an H atom or an alkyl, acyl, or aryl group, and Q may be an atomic group necessary to complete a selenophene or selenazole or seleno-diazole ring.
